Parents: Tommy and Ruth Truss
What activities and organizations are you involved in?
Ivan Truss: SGA, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Science Club, Computer Club, Spanish, DECA, treasurer for the National Honor Society and a cabinet member on SGA.
What honors have you received?
IT: I won the county tournament my 10th grade year for golf, and I won Region 6 for the Bryant-Jordan Scholar Athlete award.
What are your plans after graduation?
IT: I’m planning on attending Samford, majoring in math. I want to teach, either high school or college.
Do you have any favorite memories from high school?
IT: The golf team – all four years have been a lot of fun. I had good guys to play with. The coaches were great. It’s something I won’t forget.
Who are your mentors?
IT: My parents and my grandparents, mainly. They always pushed me, never let me do anything halfway. They taught me that if you’re going to do something, you need to try your best to do it right, but in all that, they still supported me.
What advice would you give to younger students?
IT: Don’t slack up. Any kind of hard work that you’re putting in now, times that you think it’s not going to matter, when it gets time to graduate and go to college, it’s going to make a difference. Even the little things that you’re doing now that you don’t see the point in, enjoy it, make good memories in high school, and just work hard.
